Cynthia Lynn Sumpter, a 5-year-old girl, was last seen on April 27, 1974, playing outside her apartment complex on Elm Street in San Jose, California. Around 1:30 to 1:45 p.m., her mother, Linda Sumpter, realized Cynthia was missing and searched for her for half an hour before notifying the police.
