Russell Mort, a 2-year-old boy, went missing on May 5, 1982, from the backyard of his family's home at Lynch’s Trailer Park in Wheatfield, near Niagara Falls, New York. He was last seen playing in a fenced yard while his mother briefly stepped inside to fix a toy. When she returned, Russell had vanished, and despite the fence being locked from the outside, he was gone. A massive search ensued, but no trace of him was found.
At the time of his disappearance, authorities considered the possibility of abduction. An unidentified couple, seen near the area in a white 1965 Corvette, was sought for questioning. The couple, described as a man and woman in their 20s or early 30s, has never been located. Despite these leads, some officials speculated that Russell might have climbed over the fence, as he had done the day before, and accidentally fallen into the Niagara River, which was only 100 yards from the home. However, no evidence has ever supported either theory.
Russell's case remains unsolved, and over the years, there have been periodic developments, including a man in Texas who came forward in 2005 claiming he might be Russell, but DNA testing ruled him out.
