However, she never returned home, and her husband reported her missing the following day. On November 15, her vehicle was found abandoned at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Kathy’s husband was also considered a suspect early in the investigation, but after passing a polygraph test, he was cleared. Authorities then focused their attention on a car salesman who had made inappropriate advances toward Kathy days before her disappearance. The salesman, who had a criminal history and was known for violent behavior, became the prime suspect, particularly after a confidential informant claimed that the salesman had admitted to killing Kathy. Despite compelling circumstantial evidence, including strands of hair found in the trunk of the salesman's car that matched Kathy's, no charges were brought against him due to a lack of physical evidence.
