Josephine Chatraw, a 36-year-old mother of five, was last seen on July 29, 1984, in Syracuse, New York. On the night of her disappearance, she spoke to her sister from her home on Seymour Street, expressing distress over a disagreement with her boyfriend, Philip Whaley. This was the last known contact anyone had with her, and she was reported missing on August 3, 1984.
