At the time of his disappearance, Spencer was living at the Orange Court Motor Lodge, where he had resided for 15 years. A retired county employee from Lexington, Kentucky, he had no known family. Spencer was known for his routine of taking daily walks and visiting SeaWorld, often traveling there by bus.
On the day he vanished, there were no signs of foul play.
His room was found in good condition, with no indications of struggle or forced entry. It is believed that Spencer may have left for one of his usual walks and possibly suffered a medical emergency, as he had a history of high blood pressure and had previously suffered a heart attack. Despite search efforts, Spencer was never located, and authorities presume that he may have passed away during a walk. Investigators continue to check unidentified decedents between Florida and Kentucky, but no conclusive matches have been found so far.
