Amber Swartz-Garcia was just 7 years old when she was last seen on June 3, 1988, playing jump rope in the front yard of her home in Pinole, California. Her mother, Kim Swartz, had allowed her to play outside for a short period while waiting for their neighbors to return home. When Kim checked on Amber 15 minutes later, she had vanished. Despite extensive searches, Amber was never found, and her case became one of the most well-known child abduction cases in the region.
Years passed with no major developments, and multiple suspects were investigated. One individual, Timothy Bindner, was long considered a person of interest, though he maintained his innocence. Another man, Curtis Dean Anderson, a convicted kidnapper and murderer, confessed to abducting and killing Amber shortly before his death in 2007. Anderson claimed he had taken Amber to Arizona, where he killed her. However, no physical evidence supporting his confession has ever been found, and many, including Amber’s mother, remain skeptical of his involvement.
Despite Anderson's confession, the lack of tangible evidence led to continued doubt about the resolution of the case. In 2013, the Pinole Police Department reopened the investigation, using new forensic techniques in hopes of uncovering more clues.
