Harrison Butler Sr., a 74-year-old man from Sumter County, South Carolina, disappeared on June 12, 1988. He was last seen walking away from his residence in Wedgefield, a rural area, around 12:30 p.m. that day. Butler, who reportedly had a history of mental health issues, was possibly headed toward Sumter, approximately 10 miles away. He was spotted by an acquaintance walking along a path toward Sally Street, about half a mile from his home. That was the last confirmed sighting of him.
