Jonathan was scheduled to take a polygraph test regarding the disappearance but never showed up. Shortly after missing the appointment, Jonathan and Cindy's mother, Janine, were found in a motel in Visalia, where Jonathan had committed suicide, and Janine was found comatose from an apparent suicide attempt. Janine survived and was questioned, but no further information about Cindy's whereabouts was revealed.
