At the time, Barbara was visiting her mother daily, who was hospitalized with pneumonia. After two days without any visits, her mother became concerned and sent relatives to check on her. When they entered her apartment, they found unsettling signs: the coffee pot was still on and half-full, her laundry was half-folded, and her purse and keys were left
behind. Barbara had a three-year-old daughter at the time of her disappearance.
Barbara had mentioned plans to visit an old boyfriend in Omaha on the day she vanished, but she never arrived. Investigators suspect she was taken against her will, though no significant clues or suspects have emerged in the decades since. Barbara's case remains unsolved, and law enforcement continues to seek information regarding her disappearance.
