In the summer of 1991, a 22-year-old mother named Cora Christmas McGuirk vanished from Seattle, Washington, leaving behind a life that had recently taken a tumultuous turn. Born on Christmas Day in 1968, Cora grew up in Chicago before moving to Washington after her high school graduation in 1986. Initially, she seemed to be building a promising future, securing a job at the University of Washington Medical Center gift shop and enrolling in the university's electrical engineering program. However, her path diverged as she eventually dropped out of her classes and left her job. In the time leading up to her disappearance, Cora was dating a man with involvement in drugs, although it remains unclear if she was also using. Her life had become unsettled, marked by periodic disappearances for a couple of days at a time. The days immediately preceding her final disappearance were fraught with a sense of foreboding. In early July 1991, Cora was gone for two days before suddenly returning. Her aunt, Beulah Walker, noticed a distinct change in her niece's demeanor, observing that she was acting strangely. When her aunt expressed her concern and asked if she was in trouble, Cora insisted that everything was fine. However, before she left again on July 12, 1991, she made a chilling request, asking her aunt to take care of her three young children if anything were to happen to her. Cora then departed and was never seen or heard from again. The family, particularly her aunt who raised her children, firmly believes that she would not have willingly abandoned them. One of her sons, Martell Webster, was only four at the time and would later become a professional basketball player. The investigation into Cora's disappearance took a dark turn when her car was discovered abandoned near Aurora Avenue North, an area notorious as a hunting ground for the Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway. This discovery led authorities to consider her a potential victim of the infamous serial killer who was convicted of murdering 49 women in the Seattle area between 1982 and 1998. Although Ridgway was arrested in 2001 and later agreed to disclose the locations of his victims' remains as part of a plea deal to avoid the death penalty, Cora's case remains unresolved. It is unknown if he was specifically questioned about her disappearance, and her body has never been found. The case of Cora McGuirk is a heartbreaking story of a young mother's life cut short under mysterious and troubling circumstances, leaving her family with unanswered questions and the enduring pain of not knowing what happened to her. The Seattle Police Department continues to list her as a missing person, and the investigation, though yielding few clues over the decades, remains open.
