In the late summer of 1991, a sense of unease settled over a group of friends in Colorado. On August 12, 53-year-old Daniel H. Miranda said his goodbyes to a friend in Colorado Springs. He was setting off on a short trip to Denver to visit some other friends, a journey that should have only kept him away for a day.
