Frances Mary Kiefer, aged 44, was last seen on March 22, 1994, in her home in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania. On that day, her husband woke up, leaving her asleep in bed, and went to take a shower. When he returned, Frances and the family car were gone. Frances suffered from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, conditions that had kept her largely homebound for the previous 18 months. Her daily medication, along with one or two jackets, were also missing.
