Ylva Hagner, a 42-year-old Swedish national, was last seen on October 14, 1996, at her workplace in Belmont, California. She worked as a marketing manager for a software company called Ixos Software and was also studying at Stanford University. Hagner was last seen by a co-worker around 9:30 p.m. at the office. Three days later, her black 1992 Honda Civic was found abandoned in San Carlos, a mile and a half from her office.
The car was unlocked, with the keys still in the ignition, but there were no signs of a struggle, and her purse was missing.
At her home in Palo Alto, her passport was found, and there had been no activity on her bank accounts since she disappeared. Her loved ones reported that it was highly uncharacteristic for her to vanish without any communication, and they revealed that she had been stalked by a male acquaintance before her disappearance. Authorities believe Hagner may have been abducted by someone she knew, but despite extensive searches and investigations, no significant leads have surfaced.
