Jin S. Chin, aged 55, was last seen on January 4, 1998, when he departed from Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach, Virginia, for what was supposed to be a short, three-hour fishing trip. He was alone on his 23-foot boat, the *Formosa*. The next day, the boat was found drifting 40 miles offshore by a Coast Guard aircraft. The boat's engine was still running, and all the fishing gear was intact, but there was no sign of Chin.
