Mario Antonio Mordoche, an 11-year-old boy, went missing from Miami, Florida, on August 28, 1999, along with his mother, Yakelin Llanes, and younger brother, Jonathan. The family was last seen as they prepared to drive to Tampa, Florida, in a rented brown 1999 Chevrolet Malibu with Florida plates. Yakelin reportedly intended to visit her ex-boyfriend, the father of her children, and she mentioned she would be returning with a new car.
However, they never reached their destination and have not been seen since.
Curiously, there were signs suggesting they may not have actually left for their trip. Investigators noted that personal items, such as Yakelin's toothbrush, were left behind in their apartment, and there was no evidence of the family packing or preparing for a journey.
