Jonathan Mordoche, aged 8, was last seen on August 28, 1999, in Miami, Florida. He disappeared along with his 11-year-old brother, Mario, and their mother, Yakelin Llanes. The family was reportedly heading to Tampa to visit Jonathan and Mario's father. They were traveling in a rented brown 1999 Chevrolet Malibu with the Florida license plate GH830M. However, they never arrived at their destination and have not been heard from since.
Although Yakelin had told relatives that they were going to Tampa to pick up a new car, the circumstances around their disappearance remain unclear. No signs of preparation for the trip were found in their home, and some personal belongings, such as Yakelin’s toothbrush, were left behind, adding to the mystery. Relatives reported the family missing when they had not heard from them for two weeks.
