In the small town of Valliant, Oklahoma, a young mother named Hope Danielle Meek, 25 years old, vanished on February 21, 2002. She lived on Section Line Road with her husband, Jerry, and their three young children. According to her husband, he last saw Hope at their home around 3:00 p.m. before he took their children on a camping trip. He claimed that they were in the process of separating and that he had given her $500 before leaving. Jerry returned home around midnight, stating it was too cold to camp, and found that Hope was gone. Critically, her personal belongings, including her pickup truck, keys, eyeglasses, and cell phone, were all left behind at the residence. It would be five full days before Jerry reported his wife missing to the authorities. Friends and family grew increasingly concerned, stating it was highly uncharacteristic of Hope to leave without a word, especially considering her devotion to her children. At the time of her disappearance, she was on the verge of completing a bachelor's degree in criminal law and worked for the McCurtain County Sheriff's Department, escorting prisoners. She never returned to pick up her final paycheck. Just fifteen days after she was last seen, her husband filed for divorce and was subsequently granted full custody of their children. The investigation into her disappearance continued for years, with suspicion falling on her husband due to inconsistencies in his account and his delay in reporting her missing. One of their children later testified to witnessing a fight between the parents on the day Hope disappeared, after which their mother fell silent. The child also recalled helping their father cut up a piece of bedroom carpet. A decade after she vanished, in August 2012, Jerry Meek was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with his wife's disappearance. The prosecution built a circumstantial case, suggesting that Hope was killed by her husband during an argument. Despite the absence of her body, a murder weapon, or direct eyewitnesses, a jury convicted Jerry Meek of first-degree murder in November 2013. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals later upheld this conviction. Hope Meek's body has never been located, leaving her family without the closure of laying her to rest. The case stands as a somber reminder of a life cut short, a family torn apart by violence, and a community left with lingering questions. Although her husband was held accountable for her death, the full story of what happened to Hope Danielle Meek on that winter day remains partially obscured, with the exact details of her final moments and the location of her remains still unknown.
