John Thai Nguyen, a 3-year-old boy, disappeared on April 18, 2002, along with his mother, Stephanie Van Nguyen, and his older sister, Kristina Nguyen. The family was last seen traveling in a green 1997 Nissan Pathfinder with Ohio license plates. Stephanie left notes for her husband and parents, indicating that she intended to drive into the Ohio River due to personal struggles.
