Carla Elizabeth Losey, a 20-year-old woman, vanished on New Year's Eve in 2002 from Columbus, Ohio. She was last seen leaving El Grotto's bar, where she was employed as an exotic dancer. When she left the now-defunct establishment on West Broad Street, she was in the company of an unidentified African-American man. Her attire that evening consisted of all black clothing, including a black leather jacket. Witnesses reported seeing the pair walking across the street toward another bar, the Junebug, which has also since closed. Carla, who sometimes used the nicknames Mia, Cream, or Isyss, was of Yugoslavian descent but could be mistaken for Hispanic. She had several distinguishing marks, including a mole above the right side of her lip, a mole below her right eye, a three-inch scar across her forehead, and a round scar on her left hand. Her ears and tongue were pierced. The evening of her disappearance, Carla had left her home around 7:00 p.m. to go to work. She was expected at her mother's house on New Year's Day but never arrived. Concern for her well-being grew after five days of no contact, which was unusual for her, and a friend alerted her family. Her family officially reported her missing on January 12. In the initial stages of the investigation, rumors surfaced that a man Carla had been dating had harmed her and disposed of her remains in a landfill. Her family confirmed that she had argued with this individual on the day she disappeared and that he had been physically abusive in the past. However, this information has not been officially verified, and no suspect has been publicly named in connection with her case. Authorities also considered the possibility that she may have attempted to travel to Richmond, Virginia, or New York. The disappearance of Carla Losey has left her family in a painful state of uncertainty for over two decades. Her mother, Pam Conner, expressed the deep anguish of not knowing her daughter's fate, a sentiment that was tragically passed down as Carla's grandmother died without ever learning what happened. The case remains unsolved, with foul play suspected. The Columbus Police Department continues to handle thousands of missing persons cases annually, with very few remaining unresolved for such an extended period. The investigation into what happened to Carla after she walked away from the bar that cold New Year's Eve continues, with her family holding onto hope for answers and closure. Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact the Columbus Police Department.
