Monica Carrasco, a 16-year-old from Balmorhea, Texas, was last seen on October 1, 2003, at her aunt and uncle’s home. She was staying with them following a disagreement with her mother. On the night of her disappearance, Monica went to bed around 11 p.m. Her cousins checked on her at 1:30 a.m., and she was still asleep. However, by the morning of October 2, she was gone. The only items missing were her beige nightgown and her Bible, while her shoes and socks were left behind.
Despite extensive searches, no trace of Monica has ever been found. The area around her aunt and uncle’s rural home is rugged, filled with rocks and thorny plants, making it difficult for someone to walk barefoot. While there are theories that Monica may have left to meet someone she met online, or that she became disoriented due to her medication, nothing has been confirmed. A bus driver who had allegedly harassed her months earlier was questioned but ruled out as a suspect. However, Monica’s uncle reportedly failed a polygraph test.
Monica was a religious girl, a junior in high school, and had struggled with depression and anorexia following the death of her father.
