Kathryn Elizabeth Collins, a 23-year-old woman, was last seen in Port Lavaca, Texas, on the morning of April 1, 1981. She had left her young son with her boyfriend's parents to run errands, including grocery shopping and a doctor’s appointment. At some point during her trip, her car, a brown 1974 Chevrolet Caprice, developed a flat tire, prompting her to pull over near a restaurant by the causeway.
Witnesses reported seeing a light-colored van nearby, and Collins was last observed with the driver, presumably getting assistance with her tire. She has not been seen since.
Collins' vehicle was found abandoned with the flat tire still intact, but there were no signs of her. Investigators suspect foul play, as it was out of character for her to vanish without a trace. There was speculation that her disappearance might be linked to the case of another woman, Wanda Priddy, who also went missing from the same area in 1978. A man known to both women was questioned, but no direct evidence connected him to either case, and he passed away in 1991.
At the time of her disappearance, Collins had only recently moved to the area from Blessing, Texas, and was carrying a significant amount of cash.
