Everlyse Cabrera, a two-year-old girl, was reported missing from her foster home in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The foster parents, Vhee and Manuel Carrascal, stated they last saw Everlyse asleep in her bed at 1:00 a.m. By 8:00 a.m. that morning, she was gone. The Carrascals suggested that the toddler might have stood on a chair, unlocked the front door, and wandered outside. However, they did not report her missing to the authorities until noon, a full four hours after they discovered she was gone. At the time of her disappearance, Everlyse was last seen wearing a pink t-shirt and pink shorts, with no shoes. Concerns surrounding Everlyse's case grew as the investigation unfolded. Authorities noted that no one outside of the foster family had seen Everlyse since May 15, nearly a month before she was reported missing. This last sighting was by her biological parents, Marlena Olivas and Ernesto Cabrera, who had noticed an unexplained burn on her hand during their visit. The foster parents, Vhee and Manuel Carrascal, stopped cooperating with the police shortly after the investigation began. In subsequent legal proceedings, when questioned about Everlyse's disappearance, both foster parents invoked their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination. Investigators have expressed skepticism about the theory that the two-year-old left the house on her own, suggesting it would have required a strange sequence of events. Everlyse and her younger brother had been placed in the foster care system after her brother tested positive for drugs at birth. Her biological parents, who lived in California, had visitation rights. Following their daughter's disappearance, Olivas and Cabrera filed a lawsuit against the Carrascals and the Clark County Department of Family Services, alleging negligence. The lawsuit was eventually settled for $300,000, which released the foster parents from future civil liability. While Everlyse's biological parents later surrendered their parental rights to their other children, allowing them to be adopted, they never did so for Everlyse. Despite extensive searches of the neighborhood and surrounding desert areas, no trace of Everlyse has ever been found. The case remains unsolved, and the foster parents, while being a focus of the investigation, have never been named as suspects.
