In the small community of Como, Tennessee, the story of Rachel Lynn Conger's disappearance is one that continues to evoke a sense of sorrow and unanswered questions. A 30-year-old mother, Rachel was last seen on March 13, 2008. At the time, she was navigating a difficult period in her life, having recently separated from her husband, Paul Conger, who was about 20 years her senior. Despite their marital problems, which led to Rachel moving out of their shared home two months prior, the couple had been attempting to reconcile. Rachel, a female with blonde hair and green eyes, was last seen wearing a burgundy tank top with pink lettering, black sweatpants, and tennis shoes. She was seen as a passenger in her husband's gray 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck in Paris, Tennessee, on the morning of her disappearance. This would be the last time anyone reported seeing Rachel Conger. The hours and days that followed Rachel's last sighting were filled with growing concern and a series of grim discoveries. On the morning of March 13, an acquaintance of Rachel's attempted to call her cell phone at 9:33 a.m. but was met with an upset-sounding Paul Conger, who did not allow the caller to speak with Rachel. Less than an hour later, a witness saw Paul arrive at his home alone, stay for a few minutes, and then leave again. This was the last known sighting of Paul before he also disappeared. The alarm was raised, and on March 15, authorities located Paul's truck near his home. Inside the vehicle were Rachel's wallet, cell phone, and medication. The following day, the search for the couple came to a tragic conclusion for one of them. Paul Conger's body was found in the woods approximately 500 yards from his residence, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was, however, no sign of Rachel. The investigation into Rachel's disappearance has been fraught with troubling details and a profound sense of loss for her family, particularly her daughter, Amber. Amber, who was just 13 years old at the time of her mother's disappearance, has spoken of a history of abuse her mother endured at the hands of Paul Conger. She recounted that her stepfather had threatened to kill both her and her mother on multiple occasions. Authorities have long suspected that Rachel was the victim of a murder-suicide perpetrated by her husband. Despite extensive searches of the area where Paul's body and truck were found, no trace of Rachel has ever been discovered. The case remains open, a cold case that holds the painful possibility of a mother's life cut short and a daughter's quest for answers. The Henry County Sheriff's Department continues to be the point of contact for any information regarding the disappearance of Rachel Conger, a case that serves as a somber reminder of the lasting impact of domestic violence.
