On a Sunday evening, October 10, 2004, 55-year-old Janie Sue Lindsey was last seen in Huntingdon, Tennessee. She was at a gas station in the parking lot of a Walmart on Veterans Drive North at approximately 6:00 p.m. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a light-colored t-shirt and dark-colored shorts. Janie, also known by her previous married name, Grooms, was a mother and grandmother who had made plans to visit her grandchildren in the near future, a visit she would tragically never make. Her family says it was highly uncharacteristic of her to leave without any warning. Three days after she was last seen, on October 13, 2004, Janie's vehicle was found. Her white 1983 Lincoln Town Car, which had a distinctive burgundy vinyl top, was located near the intersection of Grooms Road and Bobbitt Road in Carroll County. The car was parked at the home of an acquaintance, who was questioned by authorities but never charged in connection with her disappearance. Janie was known to wear glasses with bronze-colored wire frames and had several pieces of jewelry on when she vanished: a gold Mother's ring with two topaz stones and a gold ring with a square cluster of diamonds. She had pierced ears, a scar on the top of her right hand, a small round scar on her upper left arm, and a linear scar on her lower abdomen. The circumstances surrounding Janie Lindsey's disappearance remain a painful mystery for her loved ones and investigators. She was last seen in the company of a man named Donald Beard, who was later found deceased from what were determined to be natural causes. The investigation into Janie's case has seen searches of residences, but these have not led to a resolution. Her husband was ruled out as a suspect, but another male acquaintance's home was searched by police. Despite the passage of time, Janie's case remains unsolved, leaving her family without answers about what happened to her after she was last seen on that October evening. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office continues to hold the case file, hoping that one day new information will come to light and provide closure.
