Harold William Schroetter, a 56-year-old postal worker and Navy veteran, disappeared from his home in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, on the morning of February 26, 2009. He was last seen leaving for an appointment with his attorney, but he never arrived and has not been heard from since. On March 1, 2009, his red 2004 Chrysler Crossfire was found abandoned in a parking lot in St. Paul, only a few miles from his home.
Despite no signs of foul play at the car's location, his disappearance has been classified as suspicious.
At the time of his disappearance, Schroetter was in the process of ending a relationship with his live-in girlfriend and changing the beneficiaries of his estate. Blood matching Schroetter's was later found in the trunk of the girlfriend’s vehicle, along with evidence suggesting that the trunk liner had recently been replaced. This led investigators to suspect foul play, with both the girlfriend and her brother becoming primary suspects in the case. However, despite these developments, no charges have been filed due to a lack of sufficient evidence to support a case of murder.
