On a late November evening in 2009, a 47-year-old woman named Edith Margaret Claver, often called Margaret or Maggie by those who knew her, was at the United Pentecostal Church in Renton, Washington. She was last seen at the church, located in the 200 block of Hardie Avenue northwest, at approximately 7:00 p.m. on November 27, 2009. At the time she went missing, Edith, an American Indian / Alaska Native woman with black hair and brown eyes, stood between 5'4" and 5'5" tall. She was wearing blue jeans, a blue pullover fleece, tennis shoes, and a distinctive gold ring engraved with the word "LOVE". Originally from British Columbia, Canada, Edith was residing in Des Moines, Washington, at the time of her disappearance. She has several identifying scars, including one through her left eyebrow, another on her right forearm, and scars on both of her lower legs. The day after Edith was last seen, a troubling discovery was made at the church where she had been. A church employee found a collection of her personal items placed neatly next to a dumpster on the north side of the building. Among the items were her union ID, keys, wallet, and a small amount of money. All of her vehicles were accounted for at her residence, adding to the mystery of her sudden vanishing. Concerned for her welfare, the Renton Police Department opened a missing persons investigation on November 30, 2009, and sought help from the public to find her. It was also noted that Edith may have been living with schizophrenia. As the investigation progressed, the circumstances surrounding Edith's disappearance grew more concerning. By April 2010, detectives began to suspect that she may have been a victim of foul play, and the case was being looked at as a potential homicide. Authorities sought and obtained search warrants for her email and phone records, hoping to find clues about what happened to her. Despite these efforts and interviews with friends and relatives, the investigation has not led to a resolution. Edith Claver's case remains an unsolved and painful mystery for her loved ones and the community. The lack of clear answers and the disturbing nature of her personal effects being found abandoned have left a lingering sense of unease, with the possibility of foul play being a significant concern for investigators. Her disappearance is a somber reminder of the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People.
