The three women, who had driven from Illinois to spend a summer day at the beach, were last seen leaving their belongings on the shore and venturing into Lake Michigan around noon. Several witnesses reported seeing the women board a small white boat operated by a man in his early twenties with dark, wavy hair.
A search for the women began on July 5, after their families filed missing person reports. Despite extensive efforts by park rangers and the U.S. Coast Guard, no trace of the women or the boats they were seen boarding has ever been found. Over the years, theories have ranged from accidental drowning to foul play, possibly linked to the women’s connections with individuals involved in criminal activities within the horse racing community. Blough, a horse enthusiast, had mentioned to friends that she was having problems with people connected to a horse syndicate.
Though there were sightings of the women with other unidentified individuals on a larger boat later in the day, these reports remain unconfirmed.
