Larry Schafer, a 34-year-old man, disappeared on March 14, 1982, while hiking in the Mount Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains in California. He was reportedly hiking in Ice Canyon at elevations above 5,000 feet. Schafer failed to return home for his birthday celebration later that evening. Search efforts were hindered by dangerous conditions in the area, including the risk of avalanches. Despite extensive searches, Schafer was never found, and his case remains unsolved.
