She was playing on a swing set in the front yard of her family's mobile home on Thrasher Lane around 1:30 p.m. Her mother, who was inside the home, briefly took her eyes off Tanisha to sweep a rug, but when she looked again, Tanisha had vanished. After searching for two hours, her mother and a neighbor contacted the police.
Despite extensive searches involving dogs, helicopters, and volunteers, no trace of Tanisha was found.
There was a reported sighting of Tanisha later that day. A witness claimed to have seen her walking with a slender, bearded man wearing a green Army hat along Riverside Drive. However, this lead did not result in any breakthroughs, and the man has never been identified. Authorities suspect foul play in Tanisha's disappearance, but no solid evidence has been uncovered to determine what happened to her. Over the years, the case has remained unsolved, and despite occasional tips and sightings, Tanisha has never been found.
