Paula Godfrey, a 19-year-old from Overland Park, Kansas, disappeared on September 1, 1984. She had been hired by John Edward Robinson Sr., a man later revealed to be a serial killer, to work as a sales representative for his company, Equi-II. On the day she vanished, Robinson picked her up from her parents' home, claiming he would take her to the airport for a job-related trip to San Antonio, Texas.
Paula never arrived at her destination, and when her family didn't hear from her, they reported her missing.
Shortly after, her family received a typed letter supposedly from Paula, stating that she was safe and didn’t want to see them. Her family believed the letter was a forgery, as it was filled with errors uncharacteristic of her writing. Despite their concerns, the police initially closed the case, accepting the letter at face value.
Years later, Paula’s disappearance was linked to Robinson, who was convicted of several murders, including that of Lisa Stasi, another young woman who went missing under similar circumstances. Investigators reopened Paula’s case when Robinson was found responsible for the deaths of multiple women, though her body has never been found. Paula’s disappearance is believed to be part of Robinson's broader criminal activities, including fraud, murder, and involvement in a black-market baby-brokering operation.
