Lisa Stasi, a 19-year-old mother, disappeared on January 9, 1985, from Overland Park, Kansas, along with her 4-month-old daughter, Tiffany. Lisa had been staying at a shelter for women after leaving her troubled marriage in late 1984. She became involved with John Edward Robinson, a con man who presented himself as someone offering help to single mothers through a fraudulent outreach program.
Robinson arranged for Lisa and Tiffany to stay at the Rodeway Inn, where he manipulated her into signing blank documents under the guise of securing housing and employment. Lisa called her mother-in-law in a distressed state, claiming she was being forced to sign papers and fearing for her daughter’s custody. That phone call was the last anyone heard from Lisa.
Authorities later discovered that Robinson had forged adoption papers and gave Tiffany to his brother, who was unaware of the criminal circumstances. Tiffany was raised as Heather Robinson, only learning the truth about her adoption after Robinson’s arrest in 2000.
