Kimberlie Kay Kantonen, a 19-year-old from Hornbrook, California, went missing on March 8, 1989. At the time, she was four months pregnant and living with her boyfriend on the property of Arnold Aggas Sr., who was the last person known to have seen her. Kantonen had confided in her mother that Aggas had made unwanted advances and was angry upon learning of her pregnancy. She was last seen wearing a blue sweatsuit, a tan corduroy jacket, white sneakers, and carrying a black purse.
After her disappearance, Aggas claimed Kantonen had left a note stating she had met a truck driver and was leaving to raise her baby in Washington, but her family found this story suspicious. Kantonen’s mother began receiving anonymous threatening calls warning her to stop inquiring about her daughter's disappearance.
In 2011, more than two decades after Kantonen vanished, Aggas was arrested and charged with her murder after new evidence emerged during a search of his property. In 2014, he pleaded no contest to two counts of involuntary manslaughter for both Kantonen and her unborn child. Although he was sentenced to 13 years, he was released early in 2019.
