Donna O'Dell Sumners, age 25, was last seen on the evening of February 1, 1994, at her apartment in Brooksville, Florida. She had been living in the Candleglow Apartments with her husband, Monroe, and their five-year-old son. Donna had previously reported domestic abuse, telling police that Monroe had beaten her severely just two weeks prior to her disappearance, leaving her with hearing loss in one ear and visible bruises.
Despite this, she chose not to press charges and returned to Brooksville after briefly staying with her family in Alabama in an effort to repair the marriage.
On the night she went missing, Donna called her mother in Alabama, asking for help, saying Monroe was trying to cut the phone line. When police responded to the call, Donna claimed she was fine. However, she vanished shortly after, and her husband reported she had taken $1,000 and left. Foul play is suspected, as it was uncharacteristic of her to leave without contacting her family, especially her son.
Monroe became a person of interest due to his violent history and the discovery of suspicious damage to his vehicle shortly after Donna’s disappearance. Despite this, the investigation stalled after Monroe's suicide in 1995. To date, Donna has never been found, and her case remains unsolved.
