Moira Bossard, an 80-year-old woman from Brooksville, Florida, was reported missing on October 8, 2024. She was last seen entering a hurricane shelter at Challenger K-8 school in Spring Hill, Florida, just before Hurricane Milton made landfall. Neighbors described Bossard as confused before she drove to the shelter, mentioning she had returned home once because she was lost and talked about driving to Tennessee to be with her family.
The Hernando County Sheriff's Office launched a search for Bossard, but there was no record of her checking in at the shelter. Her body was discovered four days later, on October 13, 2024, inside her submerged 2021 Toyota Corolla in a body of water in Pasco County. The sheriff's office confirmed that Bossard had not been diagnosed with any cognitive impairments. The official cause of death has not been disclosed.
