On a June evening in 1997, 26-year-old Lori Bova, a female from Lakewood, New York, disappeared after what was supposed to be a celebratory dinner. She, along with her husband, Tyrone Bova, and her sister and brother-in-law, had dined at a local Red Lobster. According to her husband's account to the police, the couple returned to their apartment and had an argument. He stated that in the early morning hours of June 8, 1997, Lori went for a walk and never returned. She left behind her purse, identification, and money, and there has been no activity on her bank account since. Lori's family described her as being afraid of the dark, making it unlikely she would have gone for a walk alone late at night. The days and weeks following Lori's disappearance were filled with intense searches by multiple police agencies and community members, who combed the area by land, air, and water. Investigators began conducting numerous interviews to develop leads. A few months into the investigation, a clump of human hair discovered in Chautauqua Lake sparked a renewed search of the water, but it was determined the hair was not Lori's and no evidence was found. Lori's husband, Tyrone, was considered a person of interest in the case; however, he was reportedly uncooperative with the investigation early on and eventually hired an attorney. No charges were ever filed against him or anyone else in connection with Lori's disappearance. Over the years, the investigation into Lori Bova's disappearance has grown cold, leaving her family with unanswered questions. One of the lead investigators, now retired, continues to believe that there are people in the community who hold information that could solve the case. A significant and tragic turn of events occurred in 2018 when Tyrone Bova, his second wife, and one of their children were killed in a car accident. This left Lori's family feeling that any chance of getting answers directly from him was gone. Despite the passage of time and the death of the primary person of interest, law enforcement and Lori's loved ones have not given up hope of one day finding her and bringing her home. The case remains an open missing person investigation, a painful and unresolved chapter for a family still seeking closure.
