John Clifton Butler, aged 48, was reported missing on September 16, 1999, in Santa Monica, California. Although Butler was last seen in 1994 living on the streets of Santa Monica, his family only reported him missing years later when they were unable to contact him after his father passed away, leaving him a substantial inheritance. Butler had been in and out of mental health institutions in California and Oregon prior to his disappearance, suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.
