Virginia Lynne Beach, a 37-year-old woman, was last seen in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, on October 17, 2000. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a white female with blonde, long hair that went past her shoulders and green eyes. She stood between 4'11" and 5'1" tall and weighed between 90 and 105 pounds. Her family had last seen her several months before she was officially reported missing.
Distinctive physical features included a mole on the left side of her chin, another on her upper center chest and neck area, a scar on her left cheek, and a scar on her right arm. When she was last seen, she was reportedly wearing jeans.
The circumstances surrounding Virginia's disappearance are deeply concerning as she vanished during the same period as four other women who were sex workers in the same downtown Wilmington area. Tragically, three of these women were later found murdered, their bodies discovered in remote locations both in Wilmington and in other states. Investigators have publicly stated their belief that these women were victims of a serial killer, John Wayne Boyer, a long-distance truck driver known to target sex workers across the southeastern United States. This connection has led authorities to classify Virginia's case as one of endangered missing.
In 2003, John Wayne Boyer was convicted for the murder of a woman in Wilmington and was later also found guilty of murdering a woman in Tennessee. He admitted to disposing of victims' remains off Interstate 20 in South Carolina, and investigators suspect his crimes could date back as far as 1989. Despite the strong suspicions of his involvement in Virginia's case, Boyer has never been formally charged in connection with her disappearance. The Wilmington Police Department continues to hold the case file, and Virginia Lynne Beach has never been found.
