In the summer of 2002, a young mother named Lourdes Contreras vanished from her home in Aurora, Illinois, leaving behind a mystery that continues to trouble her family and investigators. At 26 years old, Lourdes, a native of Jalisco, Mexico, had been living in Aurora for about five years. The last confirmed contact her family had with her was sometime in August 2002.
