Gertrude Melvin, aged 80, disappeared on June 20, 2007, during a devastating flash flood in Colchester, New York. At the time, Melvin was visiting her daughter, Elaine Finkle, in Finkle’s double-wide mobile home. The mobile home was tragically swept away by rising floodwaters, and while Finkle was rescued, Melvin could not reach the safety rope. The trailer disintegrated in the flood, with parts of it being found along Route 206.
