Gertrude Melvin, aged 80, disappeared on June 20, 2007, during a devastating flash flood in Colchester, New York. At the time, Melvin was visiting her daughter, Elaine Finkle, in Finkle’s double-wide mobile home. The mobile home was tragically swept away by rising floodwaters, and while Finkle was rescued, Melvin could not reach the safety rope.
