Investigators believe that on that day, a 45-year-old man named Ronald Talmage picked her up from her home. It is thought that they may have traveled in a borrowed dark green 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Colorado license plate PBE6081. Their potential destination was an area southwest of Colorado Springs, possibly including Highway 24, Highway 42, and the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. This was the last time anyone has reported seeing or hearing from Colleen Barrett. She left behind a teenage daughter.
A few days after Colleen's disappearance, on July 23, 2007, a real estate agent discovered the body of her boyfriend, Robert Alurac, outside a home for sale near Morrison, Colorado. An investigation determined that he had been shot to death and had likely been deceased for several days.
