She was reported missing by her coworkers on October 19, 2007, after failing to show up for work at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center. Rupinder's disappearance raised alarms as she left behind personal belongings, missed a doctor's appointment, and there was no activity on her credit cards or phone after she went missing.
