David Gerard Berger, a 36-year-old man from Greenwood Village, Colorado, was last seen on January 11, 2008, after traveling to Costa Rica. He was reported missing when he failed to return home from an extended trip to the Central American country. During his time in Costa Rica, David had started a relationship with a local woman, who was later identified as a prostitute.
