Maria Pomona Cruz Estrada, a 66-year-old woman, went missing on June 7, 2008, while hiking in the Mojave National Preserve, approximately 40 miles northwest of Needles, California. She was hiking with a 64-year-old male companion, and the two separated at a fork in the trail, each searching for the vehicle they believed was in different locations. Maria was last seen around 6:00 p.m. in a ravine west of Fort Piute but never arrived at their designated meeting spot.
At the time of her disappearance, Maria was not carrying any food or water. She was wearing a white long-sleeved blouse, denim shorts, white sneakers, and a blue denim baseball cap with "San Luis Obispo" printed on it. She was also possibly wearing a gold watch and a necklace. Despite extensive search efforts involving 22 searchers, helicopters, and search dogs, no trace of Maria was found.
Originally from the Philippines, Maria had been visiting family in Blythe, California, at the time of her disappearance. Her case remains unsolved, with no further developments reported despite the search efforts.
