Maria Pomona Cruz Estrada, a 66-year-old woman, went missing on June 7, 2008, while hiking in the Mojave National Preserve, approximately 40 miles northwest of Needles, California. She was hiking with a 64-year-old male companion, and the two separated at a fork in the trail, each searching for the vehicle they believed was in different locations. Maria was last seen around 6:00 p.m. in a ravine west of Fort Piute but never arrived at their designated meeting spot.
