On October 31, 2010, 18-year-old David Jacquez Ortiz vanished from Silver City, New Mexico, leaving his family with unanswered questions. That evening, he departed from his grandparents' residence on Kimberly Drive with the intention of going trick-or-treating. He was reportedly planning to meet a friend but never made it to their house. The last confirmed sighting of David was at approximately 9:00 p.m. in the 200 block of North Bullard.
He was last seen wearing a blue sweater with a black t-shirt over it, black shorts, and brown steel-toed boots. He is described as a Hispanic male with black hair, and brown eyes, and has a scar in the center of his chest.
David's family grew concerned when he did not return and officially reported him as a missing person on November 3, 2010. At the time of his disappearance, his family described him as being in good spirits. He had recently been granted visitation rights with his infant son, Joshua, just three days prior to his disappearance, a development that had brought him immense joy. He was also on the verge of graduating from high school and had expressed an interest in joining the Army. His family does not believe he would have left voluntarily, especially since he left behind all of his personal belongings, including his clothing and cell phone.
Over the years, the investigation into David's disappearance has been met with numerous rumors and dead ends. There have been unsubstantiated claims that he was beaten and his body disposed of in El Paso, Texas, while other theories suggested he may have run away. Law enforcement has followed up on various leads, including reported sightings in Las Cruces and Roswell, but none have been substantiated. Searches have been conducted at multiple locations based on tips, including a residence on Mountain View Road, a home in Santa Clara where a cadaver dog was used, and even the local landfill, but no evidence of David was ever found. Tragically, the Ortiz family suffered another loss nearly two years after David's disappearance when his sister, Nichole Leon Ortiz, was murdered.
