Ryan Mann, a 19-year-old from Shafter, California, went missing on March 21, 2011. He was reportedly struggling with depression, which had led to self-harming behavior in the weeks leading up to his disappearance. Ryan's parents had taken him to a mental health facility earlier in the month, where he received counseling and medication for anxiety. Despite these efforts, on the day of his disappearance, Ryan left his family's home, saying he would return shortly, but he never did.
