Kelly Jon Armstrong, a 27-year-old mother from Kokomo, Indiana, was last seen in July 2011. She lived with her boyfriend, Travis Funke, and their child in a trailer. After Kelly’s family lost contact with her for several weeks, her sister reported her missing on September 26, 2011. A subsequent police search of her residence revealed bloodstained carpeting, and Funke was arrested shortly afterward on unrelated charges.
In 2012, Funke confessed to killing Kelly during a violent altercation, claiming she attacked him with a hammer. He admitted to disposing of her body in a trash container, which was later picked up and sent to a landfill. Despite extensive searches of the Wabash Valley Landfill, Kelly’s body was never found. Funke was later charged with voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
