Alonza Kent, a 40-year-old resident of Gulf Breeze, Florida, was last seen on August 26, 2011. He embarked on a solo fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico aboard his 36-foot Boston Whaler boat, the *Monkey Bar II*. Kent was expected to return later that day but never did. His family reported him missing on August 28, and a large search effort ensued. A few days after his disappearance, Kent’s boat was found drifting off the Yucatan Peninsula, near the town of Chuburna, Mexico.
The boat was empty, with no signs of Kent, and the keys were still in the console. Despite an extensive search by the U.S. Coast Guard, which covered an area larger than the state of Maryland, no trace of him was found.
The circumstances of Kent's disappearance remain mysterious, and authorities found no immediate signs of foul play aboard the boat. His family has since accepted the likelihood that he was lost at sea, holding a memorial service for him shortly after the incident. Kent, a graduate of Auburn University, was working as a salesman at the time of his disappearance.
