Mary Lou Boston, aged 23, was last seen on September 1, 1968, in Sacramento, California. Her disappearance was reported by her brother, as her husband, Silas Duane Boston, refused to get involved, citing he did not want to report her missing. At the time, Mary was a devoted mother of three, and her sudden disappearance was out of character.
Suspicion fell on her husband Silas, who acted nervously during her disappearance and was later implicated in other violent crimes.
Family members noted that a .22 caliber rifle, one of Silas's prized possessions, went missing around the same time. Silas later allegedly confessed to acquaintances that he had shot Mary and buried her body in a remote location in Northern California. Although Silas was charged in connection with a double homicide at sea in 1978, he never faced trial for Mary’s disappearance before his death in 2017. Foul play is strongly suspected, but Mary's body has never been found, and her case remains unsolved.
