Theodore and his mother, Marie Jost, disappeared under mysterious circumstances, but their disappearance wasn’t reported until 2012 when the Social Security Administration requested a welfare check after failing to contact Marie for years. Although Marie’s Social Security checks were still being cashed, there had been no signs of her or Theodore for decades.
Investigators discovered inconsistencies in the statements provided by family members, including Theodore’s brother Charles Jost and his sister Delores Disher. Charles claimed that Marie and Theodore were traveling together, but neighbors stated they had never seen either of them. The investigation suggested that the family might have been involved in a fraudulent scheme, cashing Marie's Social Security checks for over 30 years.
While some physical evidence was found on the family property, including bone fragments, the exact fate of Theodore and Marie remains unknown.
