There were speculations that he may have relocated to Florida or Georgia after disappearing, as his family later discovered that his Social Security checks were being sent to a post office box in Milledgeville, Georgia. The family suspected foul play, believing his disappearance might be tied to a Social Security fraud scheme involving the woman he was last seen with. In a bizarre twist, a report was made to the Social Security Administration stating that Dodge had died in 1984, but no death certificate was ever located, leaving his fate a mystery.
